I recognise no limits to my aspiration for my motherland.
I want our people to be in their own country what other people are in
theirs. I want our men and women without distinctions of caste or creed,
to have opportunities to grow to the full height of their stature, unhampered
by cramping and unnatural restrictions. I want India to take her place
among the great nations of the world, politically, industrially, in
religion, in literature, in science and in arts. - Gopal Krishna Gokhale
If the economy fails, then the one opportunity the people
of India have had in forty years to look forward to a better life and
a fighting chance to reduce poverty and unemployment, will have been
lost and it will be a long long time before another such opportunity
presents itself. - Minoo Masani May be, the days of our power are gone. But the days of our influence
are by no means gone. Few though we are, we are not without the power
of warning against danger, of advising in difficulty, of pointing out
the way of safety and security. These things we can do always, and now
that we are totally free of all temptations to consult the polling booth,
now that we can look facts in the face, we can afford more than any
other person in the political life of India to speak the truth just
as we see it, to serve India whom we love so much without fear or favour.
It is not a small role to play, and so long as we still can do it, we
will not be found wanting. - Rt. Hon. V.S. Srinivasa Sastri The spirit of liberalism implies freedom from race and creed prejudices and a steady devotion to all that seeks to do justice between man and man; and giving to the rulers, loyalty that is due to the law that they are bound to administer, but securing at the same time to the people the equality which is their right under the law. Moderation imposes the conditions of never vainly aspiring after the impossible or after the remote, but striving each day to take the next step in the order of natural growth by doing work that lies nearest to our hands in a spirit of compromise and fairness. - Justice M. G. Ranade Povery is a huge challenge for Liberals, both for their vision of humanity
and their vision of a just liberal society. Liberals believe in the
principle of freedom of the individual and a set of inalienable human
rights. Extreme poverty is a daily attack on the right to life of an
individual and therefore cannot be tolerated by Liberals. - Otto Count Lambsdorff |
