| He joined the moderate section of the Congress in 1907 and was associated with the newspaper, The Leader. He was one of the signatories of the Memorandum of the 19. A member of the Viceroy.s Imperial Legislative Council, he joined the Home Rule movement of Annie Besant. Appointed Law Member of Lord Reading.s Executive Council, he served for just two years. He seriously objected to the control of the British Secretary of State on Indian affairs, arguing that it would nullify all reform. He played an important role in the Round Table Conference of 1930. He opposed the Quit India Movement which he felt was a political blunder. |
