Acharya N. G. Ranga
(1900-1995)

He was one of the few leaders who not only had intimate knowledge of the problems of agriculture, but was also involved in the promotion of peasant proprietorship for over two decades. He occupied important positions in the Congress, but resigned following differences with Nehru on the issue of co-operative farming; Rajaji and many others too opposed the proposal of Nehru. Nehru was in favour of Soviet-style collective farming while Ranga was a champion of peasant proprietorship and treating agriculture as India.s .basic industry.. He founded a party of the farmers called Krishikar Lok Party, which later merged with the Swatantra Party, of which he was a founder-member and President.
